We are former Park and Recreation Commissioners sharing our perspective on the Feasibility Study for the 2.5 acre, two-rink complex at Larz Anderson Park.

Our perspective comes from thoughtful engagement in the design process for parks and recreation sites over many years, helping to guide and carefully evaluate many parks designs in our service to the town, and bringing ideas and solutions to solve multi use problems.

(1) Larz is the largest park in Brookline and its crown jewel. It would be wrong to desecrate this natural sanctuary by erecting a 2.5-acre sports complex near its summit.

(2) Larz is on the National Register of Historic Places, and its summit is on the Mass Register. To erect the proposed sports complex would be out of character.

(3) It is only common sense that a 2.5-acre sports complex on top of Larz would violate the donors’ intent.
