Who are we?
We are Brookline and Boston residents who treasure Larz Anderson Park for its expanses of lawns, trees, pathways, lagoons, and play spaces. We will fight to save this historic treasure as a clean and green open space for everyone to enjoy.

Skating outdoors in nature has been a beloved Larz Anderson Park tradition since 1955.
That’s why we support refurbishing the existing outdoor rink with a state of the art fossil fuel free technology. Repairing the existing rink - and not replacing it with a massive new two-rink and recreation complex - can be done at a fraction of the cost, and will provide an authentic and healthy outdoor experience.
Why do we oppose the proposed complex?
The $50 million construction project will increase car traffic in and around the park, overwhelm the area of the park adjacent to the historic Auto Museum, and intrude on the quiet and clean air of the park and nearby neighborhood. This project would dramatically change the landscape and the visitor experience forever.
Because of its scale and impacts, the proposed Ice Rink Complex risks delays and huge additional costs.
Consider these costly hurdles:

-
Overcoming historic landscape legal restrictions;
-
Mitigating wasteful energy consumption during Brookline’s declared climate emergency;
-
Purchasing open green space lost due to new construction, parking and roadways;
-
Replacing park roadways and adding water retention and needed storm drain systems; and
-
Financing the planning, development, construction and yearly operating costs.
