Now is the Time to
Save Larz Anderson Park
We are sounding the alarm, and we need your support to make sure our cherished open green space is not overwhelmed by any plan to construct a large, year-round sports complex at Larz Anderson Park.

THE FEASIBILITY STUDY PROPOSAL:

-
The Town has completed an expensive feasibility study that recommends, as a primary option, a year-round, 2.5-acre, 112,000 sq. ft. sports complex on the park’s S.E. slope.
The project includes:
-
Removing the existing open-air rink and constructing two new NHL regulation rinks (one outdoor and the other enclosed or covered) near the park’s summit.
-
Constructing a two level, year-round use structure to support a wide range of high intensity recreational and other activities.
-
The significant expansion of the park’s parking lots and pathways.
OUR MANY CONCERNS:

-
Reduction of Brookline’s landmark, valued open space in conflict with peaceful and natural hillside settings.
-
The sports complex’s intense energy impacts during a crucial time of climate emergency.
-
Dangerous year-round conditions caused by dramatic increase in the park’s motor vehicle and pedestrian traffic.
-
Increased negative impact on existing area neighborhood traffic congestion.
-
A process that failed to adequately involve affected neighbors and a Feasibility Study that left legal regulations and permitting reviews unresolved.
-
A Feasibility Study with initial estimated complex costs of up to 50 million dollars, not including multiple soft costs or yearly operations and maintenance costs.
WE ARE FOR:

-
Refurbishing the existing open air Kirrane Rink with state-of-the-art fossil fuel free technology.
-
Saving our park’s treasured open green space for the enjoyment and well-being of all.
-
Assuring the planning process is inclusive and equitable for both Brookline and Boston communities.
-
Recognizing the park’s historic landscape qualities listed on the State and National Register of Historic Places. Ensuring that the town and state comply with all permitting and zoning restrictions.
